Northshore Off-Road Bicycling Association (NORBA) aims to construct mountain-biking trails in Bogue Chitto State Park

Northshore Off-Road Bicycling Association (NORBA) will partner with the Louisiana Office of State Parks to construct a system of mountain-biking trails in Bogue Chitto State Park, located south of Franklinton, Louisiana. The system will consist of a series of six environmentally sustainable, high-end quality trails that will provide an enjoyable, technically challenging experience for riders of all levels.

NORBA is pursuing resources from the Federal Highway Administration under their Recreational Trails Program (RTP). RTP funds have been used to develop numerous mountain biking trails across the country and can provide a substantial boost in the quality and pace of new trail construction. If the funds become available, NORBA will partner with an experienced trail building organization to install a top notch and sustainable trail system that will attract visitors from across the country.

With over 200 feet of natural elevation change and a 90 foot bluff, Bogue Chitto State Park is an ideal location for construction of a “flow trail” and other trail varieties. According to the International Mountain Biking Association, a flow trail “typically contains features like banked turns, rolling terrain, various types of jumps, and consistent and predictable surfaces.” In essence, these features allow the rider to maintain their momentum without a lot of pedaling or braking, providing an experience that allows the rider to “go with the flow.” In addition to providing all this enjoyment for mountain bikers, all types of outdoor enthusiasts, including hikers and trail runners, will be able to enjoy the expanded park infrastructure.

Anyone interested in the project is encouraged to contact NORBA for information about how to get involved. Fundraising for this effort has already begun!  Donations are tax deductible and go to help fund:
