Sunburn results from overexposure to ultraviolet radiation. Any exposed part of the body can burn, so don’t forget to protect your ears, scalp and lips. Even covered areas can burn if clothing allows sunlight to reach the skin. At its least damaging, sunburn can be painful and frustrating; at its worst, it may require medical attention. In the long term, repeated cases of sunburn can increase the risk of developing skin problems such as advanced wrinkles, liver spots or types of skin cancer.
Sunburn symptoms can include:
•Pink or red skin
•Skin that feels warm or hot to the touch
•Pain and tenderness
•Small fluid-filled blisters, which may break
•Headache, fever, nausea and fatigue (with severe sunburn)
Even though you cannot reverse its damaging effects, you can control the symptoms of sunburn with a wide variety of store bought remedies, especially those containing aloe vera. Aloe vera has been known as a burn treatment for thousands of years, and it can help relieve the pain and inflammation caused by sunburn. A number of topical lotions, gels and sprays containing aloe vera are specifically made for sunburned skin.

Keep in mind that some people may have an allergy to aloe vera and may not be aware of it, so check for any reactions before using aloe vera lavishly. All you have to do is rub a small amount of aloe vera on the inside section of your elbow and wait a couple of seconds to observe whether an allergic reaction takes place. If redness or rash develop, try a different sunburn relief ingredient.
